Bathing Beauty

We went to Kiddie Kandids this week for Hannah's 6-month portraits. I just couldn't resist dressing her in her darling ruffle-bum swimsuit!

Silly Nana!

Wow! Nana is funny. I would just like to share a funny story that happened this weekend. Yesterday for Sunday dinner, Nana made fried chicken and biscuits. As she got the biscuits out of the oven, she exclaims "What is wrong with these biscuits?!" The last few times she has made biscuits, they have been really dense; not fluffy like they should be. Nana thought she was loosing her touch with cooking. Not so. This morning, we decided to have breakfast burritos for breakfast. I got to work making the tortillas, but couldn't find any baking powder. Here is the conversation that followed:

Jenny: "Mom where is the baking powder?"
Nana: "Right there on the counter."
Papa: (As he walks past the counter.) "No it's not. This is corn starch."
Nana: "No, it's baking powder."
Papa: (Lifting up the can.) "No, it's corn starch."
Jenny: (Looking at the can.) "It's corn starch."
Nana: "Well that explains why my biscuits didn't turn out."

Ha ha! She had used corn starch in the biscuits instead of baking powder. It reminds me of the church video called Nora's Christmas. It's the one where the crazy old lady is making brownies for her neighbors and uses salt instead of sugar. Yum!

Silly Nana! Ü

(In Nana's defense, both the baking powder and corn starch were the same brand. She just read the brand and assumed it was the baking powder. I also thought "Clabber Girl" only made baking powder.)

The First Day of First Grade!!!

Andrew was so excited to start First Grade today! He woke up early all by himself, and by the time I got down to the kitchen, he was fully dressed in his new outfit, with his hair combed (by himself!), teeth brushed, shoes on, backpack on, holding his new Star Wars lunch box (Thanks, Nana!) all ready to go! I almost felt bad telling him that school didn't start for two more hours!

Picking out the "first day outfit" took some teamwork this year. Andrew chose the awesome Lego Star Wars t-shirt (of course), and as a compromise, he wore the red button-down shirt that Mommy picked out to make it a little "nicer" for school. He looked pretty cool!
Little brother Logan really wanted to go to school too! He carried his new lunchbox around and kept saying all morning that he was going to school today! (Notice Logan's shoes. He consistantly puts his shoes on the wrong feet. It looks especially funny when its bright orange Crocs on the wrong feet! hehehe!)
This year, Andrew gets to have two teachers - Mrs. Bates and Mrs. Devine, who team teach. Andrew got to meet Mrs. Devine today and said she was really nice. Andrew was happy to see a few familiar faces from his Kindergarten class in his new First Grade class. He's especially thrilled to have his best friend, Noah, in his class again!
So how was your first day of First Grade, Andrew? "It was easy as pie. No, it was easier than pie. It was cake! No, easier than cake!"
